The list below represents genes that are
associated with human disorders and diseases that have analogous diseases
in companion animals, cats and dogs. For this Comparative Genetics
Project, large-insert DNA BAC clones have been isolated, see BAC Clone
Locations, from the cooresponding BAC libraries from BACPAC Resources.
Hence, these clones are available from BACPAC Resources for use by investigators. Microsatellite
loci are beening identified within each BAC clone to provide gene-associated
polymorphic markers for usein linkage and association studies. These
markers have been identified in silico from the genetic seqeunce
of the dog and currently by molecular techniques for the domestic cat.
The genes are listed by human location in Table 1 and in alphabetical
order in Table 2.
Our research efforts will assist any researcher interested in identifying
BAC clones for their gene of interest for the domestic cat and dog.
Additional genes will be periodically added to this list.
Particularly genes of interest have included, muscle dystrophies, retinal
degenerations, heart disease, and telomeric and centromeric genes.
