New and Emerging Zoonoses WHO/PAHO

The WHO Collaborating Center for New and Emerging Zoonoses is dedicated to the following objectives:

Develop appropiate epidemiological and laboratory methodology, including spatial epidemiology and risk assessment for new and emerging zoonoses.

Conduct research on molecular epidemiology of emerging zoonoses and evaluate appropriate sentinels in wildlife reservoir, domestic animals and in human populations.

Investigate pathogenesis of emerging zoonoses in animal models.

Educate veterinarians and other health professionals, especially from the Americas, in the use of new epidemiological and diagnostic methods useful for conducting research and improving general knowledge of new and emerging zoonoses throughout the world.
