Clinical Genetics Service

The genetics service provides genetic counseling and diagnosis in both small and large companion animals.

Appointments and telephone consultations will assist veterinarians and clients with the diagnosis of inherited diseases. Laboratory support for the Genetics Service will come from the school's Veterinary Genetics Laboratory where karyotyping, parentage analysis and some disease testing are performed.

More than 60 DNA tests are now available in dogs to help eliminate inherited diseases. The Genetics Service will provide counseling to clients who have concerns about inherited diseases in their pets.
The Genetics Service will also provide support to veterinarians who have questions about this rapidly growing field.
