The Lyons' Den cattery breeds fancy breed, cross-breed and random bred cats for genetics projects. Breeders have donated cats to Dr. Lyons at UCDavis so that the inherited disease of concern can be thoroughly clinically diagnosed and to test heritability and the the mode of inheritance of the condition. These cat pedigrees will be combined with naturally occurring pedigrees from the cat fancy to help find the genes controlling the condition. Cats are on breeding loans and can be returned to their owners and/or adopted by appropriate cat lovers when they are retired from the projects. The cattery is actively looking for cat lovers to adopt healthy kitties! Many kitties have been bred for coat colors and are not of high risk for disease. Cats currently being housed at the cattery include Russian Blues for heart disease, Orientals for lymphosarcoma and Persians for progressive retinal atrophy. Some cats of these breeds are also being used for coat color gene mapping projects. Please help these projects by considering the Sponsor a Research Cat Program or the Adopt a Research Cat Program. This site is under construction. Please visit again soon! We hope to have most of the site finish by November, 2000. Many of the current pages are the place holders for future information.
