Pulmonary Toxicology
(Laboratory Animal)
Metabolic activation, detoxification, covalent binding, cytotoxicity &
geno-toxicity of naturally occurring compounds. Mechanisms of action
of lipid peroxidation products & cytotoxicity.
Mechanism(s) involved in the monocrotaline model of pulmonary
hypertension with a present focus on determining if electrophilic insult
directed at specific proteins can be linked to the observed pathology.
Development of synthetic protocols for obtaining non-commercially
available radiolabeled compounds, production of antibodies for the
isolation and detection of pyrrole adducted macromolecules, development
of 2D proteome analysis protocols coupled with MALDI-MS for the
identification of adducted proteins, and the application of various
affinity purification protocols to isolate adducted materials from
complex biological matrices.
